Kutani Ware Matcha Bowl – Fukuro (九谷焼・フクロウ)

This Kutani-yaki chawan is a celebration of over 360 years of Japanese ceramic artistry from Ishikawa Prefecture. Its half-cylindrical form with straight sides and a flat base makes whisking matcha effortless, while the textured, weighted bottom keeps the bowl steady and your tea warm.

Hand-painted with a delicate owl pair (fukuro) design, the bowl showcases the bold, layered colours and expressive brushwork that define Kutani ware. Deep indigo outlines (gosu) frame the vibrant overglaze hues (gosai), creating a rich, textured finish that is both visually striking and tactile. Subtle variations in colour and glaze reflect the artisan’s hand, making each piece truly unique.
