About us
Yamada Chaya logo. A black brushstroke design on intense green background. The design is the Yamada family emblem from the founder's hometown.

YAMADA CHAYA

Our name

Holds the meaning of Yamada Teahouse in Nihongo (Japanese.)

We welcome you into our online teahouse where we live by the spirit ofichi-go ichi-e(一期一会) - “one time, one meeting.”

The belief that each encounter is unique and should be cherished. We hope you can enjoy Yamada Chaya to slow down, take notice, and honour the moment in front of you.

Our logo design was created by Yoshi's childhood friend, and Japanese calligraphy (書道, Shodō) artist, Chika. It is based on a generational symbol that Yoshi's family used to identify their home in their small village in Shiga.

Chika also created the beautiful calligraphy used for our different tea names.
